Do this to keep the applause rolling when you're introduced and take the stage:

After the emcee/moderator brings you up, say, "Hey, how about a round of applause for our fantastic emcee, [John/Jane Doe!]"

If you're moderating/facilitating an event, when you re-take the stage after a presentation is done, say, "How about another hand for [John/Jane!]"

Not only is this a great way to show some additional love to whom you're following, it's also a great way to give yourself a couple of extra beats before you engage your audience.
