A quasi-icebreaker?

“What was your first concert?”

This question is my favorite quasi-icebreaker (not a true icebreaker as I explain below).

Whether you’re giving a live presentation or doing a virtual training, this question has never failed to provide some good times.

I use it when coming back from a lunch hour or 15-minute break right before I begin speaking or training, but never to start a keynote or presentation. It’s always worked best after I’ve already been with the group for awhile (hence, quasi).

And the responses! You’ll hear everything. Classic rock, grunge, country, blues. And it never fails: there’s always an N’Sync or Backstreet Boys in the crowd which cracks everybody up.

Any other fun or funny icebreakers (quasi or not) that work for you? Oh, and what was YOUR first concert?
